California begins the morning under a thick veil of fog, blurring traffic lights and softening the skyline across San Diego County. Headlights glow through the haze as drivers slow, navigating streets where visibility suddenly fades.

According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. PST for coastal and inland areas of San Diego County, as well as nearby Orange County locations. Visibility may fall to one-quarter mile or less, creating hazardous driving conditions during the morning commute.

The fog is most widespread near the coast, valleys, and low-lying neighborhoods. Misty air and damp pavement increase the risk of sudden slowdowns, especially on major routes like I-5, I-8, and I-805. Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and leave plenty of space between vehicles.

Temperatures stay mild for mid-December, hovering near 70 degrees later today once fog clears. Winds remain light, allowing fog to linger longer than usual in some areas. Conditions should gradually improve by mid-morning as sunshine breaks through.

Looking ahead, patchy fog may return during late-night and early-morning hours through midweek. Wednesday and Thursday trend mostly sunny with highs climbing into the mid-70s. Nights remain cool, with lows in the mid-50s, which can support renewed fog formation.

No rain or winter precipitation is expected locally, but the fog signals a classic December weather pattern for Southern California. Calm winds and clear nights favor repeated low-visibility mornings, especially for early commuters and travelers heading to the airport.

Plan extra travel time this morning, and stay alert for sudden drops in visibility.
