Eureka, CA – The National Weather Service in Eureka has issued multiple marine alerts for the Northern California coast between Pt. St. George and Cape Mendocino, warning of rapidly deteriorating sea conditions through Tuesday night.
A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. PST Monday, followed by a Gale Warning from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. PST Monday, and a Storm Watch from Tuesday afternoon through late Tuesday night.
According to the NWS, gale-force south winds of 20 to 30 knots with gusts to 40 knots and seas up to 10 feet are expected Monday. By Tuesday, conditions could intensify further, with storm-force winds of 30 to 40 knots, gusts near 55 knots, and seas up to 12 feet possible.
Forecasters caution that these conditions will create extremely hazardous seas, with potential for capsizing, vessel damage, and reduced visibility. Mariners are strongly urged to remain in port, secure vessels, and avoid open waters until the system passes.
This stretch of rough weather marks one of the most powerful early-November systems so far this season for the Northern California coast.
