Detroit, MI – The National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac has issued a Gale Warning for much of Lake Huron, including Saginaw Bay, effective from 8 p.m. Sunday through 10 p.m. EST Monday.

Forecasters report sustained west winds up to 31 knots, with gusts near 39 knots expected across open waters. Wave heights will build to 10 feet, with isolated waves possibly reaching 14 feet by early Monday morning.

According to the NWS, the strongest winds are forecast around 7 p.m. Monday, while the largest waves will likely occur near 5 a.m. Monday. In Inner Saginaw Bay, winds will peak near 12 a.m. Monday, generating waves up to 7 feet.

The agency warns that these conditions will create dangerous seas for small craft, with potential for capsizing, vessel damage, and sharply reduced visibility. Mariners are advised to remain in port, seek safe harbor, or alter course until conditions improve late Monday night.

This marks one of the strongest early November wind events so far this season for Lake Huron, continuing a trend of active autumn weather across the Great Lakes region.
