San Francisco, CA – Significant weather risks are developing along the Northern California coastline, where high surf and king tides could bring dangerous conditions by the weekend. Officials warn that wave heights exceeding 10 feet are likely, potentially causing coastal flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.
According to the National Weather Service, the increased surf is expected from Friday through Sunday, coinciding with king tides, which are abnormally high tides. These conditions could result in large breaking waves and water surges that might inundate roads, beaches, and waterfront neighborhoods. Areas near Highway 1 and local beaches like Ocean Beach and Half Moon Bay are at heightened risk.
The region’s forecast for the week begins with mostly clear skies and calm conditions, but changes are expected midweek. Tuesday and Wednesday will remain partly sunny with daytime highs in the low 60s. Rain chances return late Wednesday night, with showers likely through Friday. Temperatures will stay in the upper 50s to low 60s during the day, dropping to the mid-40s at night.
Residents and visitors are advised to monitor weather updates and avoid entering the water during peak surf periods. Drivers along coastal roads should prepare for potential delays or detours due to flooding.
