Caribou, ME – Residents across Maine should prepare for a powerful midweek storm set to bring heavy rain and strong winds late Wednesday night. The National Weather Service warns of widespread power outages, particularly in the Downeast region, due to wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a light dusting of snow is expected Monday night, with accumulation under half an inch. A mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain will develop Tuesday night, creating slippery conditions on roads, especially on US Route 1. Commuters should drive cautiously as temperatures hover near freezing.

The storm intensifies Wednesday afternoon, with torrential rain and patchy fog likely by evening. Wind gusts may disrupt powerlines and cause minor flooding in low-lying areas as snowmelt adds to the rainfall. The strongest impacts will be felt overnight into early Thursday, when the storm’s center tracks west of the state.

By Thursday, the weather will improve, with a breezy but partly sunny day expected. Temperatures will reach 41°F before dipping into the teens overnight. Friday is forecast to be sunny and cooler, with highs in the mid-30s.

Residents are urged to prepare for potential power outages by securing outdoor items, charging devices, and stocking up on emergency supplies.
