A 79-year-old man was seriously injured following a collision involving his vehicle and a disabled semi-truck early this morning in Calhoun County. The incident occurred around 5:39 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, on 11 Mile Road near Q Drive South in Burlington Township.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office reported that the semi-truck experienced mechanical issues and became disabled, blocking both lanes of 11 Mile Road. The driver of the passenger vehicle, a man from Three Rivers, was traveling northbound when he collided with the stationary truck. As a result, the driver was pinned inside his vehicle.
Emergency responders from the Burlington and Union City Fire Departments were able to extricate the injured driver, who sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the crash.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Michigan State Police and other local agencies, are continuing to investigate the incident. The crash is under review by the Calhoun County Accident Reconstruction Team.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the cause of the mechanical failure that led to the crash.
