Butler County, OH – Two adults were arrested after Butler County Sheriff’s deputies discovered multiple children living in what authorities described as “extremely unsafe” conditions during a welfare check Tuesday evening in St. Clair Township.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 1500 block of Biscayne Drive around 4:30 p.m. on September 9 after a caller reported a young child was seen getting off a school bus unsupervised. The caller walked the child home and found the caregiver unresponsive.

Deputies entered the home and located the children’s uncle asleep in a back bedroom. They also reported unsanitary and hazardous conditions, including a white powdery substance on the floor with children’s fingerprints, feces covering the walls, insects throughout the house, and no food in the refrigerator or cabinets. Investigators also found trash, dirty diapers, and no clean clothes or proper sleeping arrangements for the children.

Children Services was called to the scene and placed the children with responsible adults. Detectives later learned the children’s mother was aware of the conditions and had relied on her siblings for child care while she worked.

Deputies arrested Adamaris Llamile Gutierrez, 24, and Christopher Gutierrez Perez, 18, both charged with endangering children. Authorities also reported that Perez is in the United States illegally from Guatemala and is being held on an ICE detainer.

“It’s horrible the condition these children were living in,” Sheriff Richard K. Jones said. “We appreciate our citizens that see something and say something.”
