A cold and cloudy day is forecast for the Champlain Valley, with scattered rain and snow showers ending this morning. However, the cold conditions will persist into the night, with widespread frost expected across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are anticipated to drop into the mid-20s to mid-30s overnight, triggering Frost Advisories and Freeze Warnings for parts of the Champlain Valley and surrounding areas. Locations such as Burlington, Middlebury, and Plattsburgh are expected to see frost formation, while areas further south may experience freezing conditions. This will mark the first significant frost of the fall season for some locations, which are nearing their median freeze date.

Residents are urged to take precautions by covering or bringing indoors any sensitive plants that could be damaged by the cold. Outdoor items such as garden hoses and irrigation systems should also be prepared for the freezing temperatures.

The cold snap is expected to continue into Thursday morning, but temperatures should gradually recover in the coming days, with highs reaching back into the 50s and 60s by the weekend.
