Burlington, VT – After a cool start to October, Vermont and northern New York residents will see an early taste of summer this weekend, with temperatures forecast to reach the 80s by Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, high pressure will dominate the region’s weather pattern through early next week. This will bring clear skies, light winds, and a steady warming trend after Thursday’s cooler conditions, when many towns started the morning in the 30s.
Friday is expected to bring highs in the upper 60s to low 70s across most areas. By Saturday, temperatures will climb into the mid-70s, with many communities including Burlington, Rutland, and Plattsburgh forecast to hit 75 to 77 degrees. The warmest day looks to be Sunday, October 5, when several locations are projected to reach 80–83 degrees, approaching daily record highs for early October.
The warm spell will be widespread, with Saint Albans, Springfield, and Middlebury all likely to see temperatures push past 80 degrees. Even typically cooler spots like Island Pond and Lake Placid are forecast to rise into the upper 70s.
Forecasters note that the warmth is expected to continue into early next week, keeping conditions unseasonably mild for the first full week of October. While no major storms or rain are in the forecast during this period, the sudden temperature swing could be noticeable for residents accustomed to fall’s recent chill.
