Buffalo, NY – Western and Central New York will see a brief stretch of cool, dry weather before a wet and windy storm system moves in late this week, according to the National Weather Service Buffalo.
A strong Canadian high-pressure system will dominate through Wednesday, keeping skies clear and temperatures seasonably cool. Highs will stay in the mid to upper 40s, with overnight lows dipping into the upper 20s and low 30s, particularly Tuesday and Wednesday nights — the coldest of the week.
By Thursday, conditions will change as a developing low-pressure system approaches from the west, bringing widespread rain and gusty winds. Rain chances climb to 70–90% by Thursday night and Friday, with highs rising slightly into the upper 40s and lower 50s.
Forecasters warn that the late-week system could produce windy conditions, especially along Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, where gusts may cause choppy waters and travel disruptions.
After the system moves through, cooler, unsettled weather is expected to persist into the weekend, with highs remaining below normal for late October.
