Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Freeze Warning for much of Western New York, effective from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 9 a.m. Wednesday, as a surge of cold air settles across the region.
The warning covers Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Northern Erie, and Genesee counties, including major cities such as Buffalo, Rochester, Batavia, and Niagara Falls. Forecasters say temperatures could fall into the upper 20s to near 30 degrees, with slightly warmer conditions near the immediate Lake Ontario shoreline.
According to the Weather Service, frost and freeze conditions may kill crops and sensitive vegetation, and could damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Homeowners are urged to cover plants, wrap pipes, and drain irrigation systems before temperatures plunge overnight.
This will be the coldest air mass of the fall season so far, signaling the end of the region’s growing season for many inland areas. Forecasters expect temperatures to remain below freezing into early Wednesday before gradually rebounding later in the day.
