Buffalo, NY – Residents across the Buffalo metro area are under an active Winter Weather Advisory Monday night as lake-effect snow continues to impact travel through early Tuesday morning, bringing slippery roads and reduced visibility during overnight and early commute hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, the advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST Tuesday, with additional snow accumulations of up to 2 inches possible in the most persistent lake-effect snow bands. The advisory covers Northern and Southern Erie County, Genesee County, and Wyoming County, including the cities of Buffalo, Orchard Park, Batavia, Warsaw, and Springville.
Forecasters say the greatest snowfall totals are expected across southern Erie County, including ridge areas near Orchard Park, as well as western Wyoming County. Northern Erie County and western portions of Genesee County could also see periods of steady snowfall overnight.
The primary concern is travel. Snow-covered and slick roadways are expected, especially on untreated roads, bridges, and higher elevations. Visibility may drop quickly as narrow lake-effect snow bands move through the region, making driving conditions unpredictable.
The advisory was issued at 9:20 p.m. Monday and continues into the Tuesday morning commute. Motorists traveling overnight or early Tuesday are urged to slow down, allow extra time, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
Lake-effect snow is known for producing sharp differences in conditions over short distances. Drivers may encounter clear roads one moment and near-whiteout conditions the next.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to submit snowfall reports through its website or social media channels to assist with tracking local conditions.
