Buffalo, NY – Snow showers and falling temperatures are expected to hit the Buffalo region beginning Thursday, potentially causing slippery roads and disruptions to travel. Residents should prepare for a mix of rain and snow as well as a sharp drop in temperatures heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will bring cloudy conditions with lingering rain and snow showers, mainly in the morning. Highs will reach only 32°F, with west winds between 5 to 10 mph. By Thursday night, temperatures are expected to dip to a frigid 27°F, with a 40% chance of additional snow showers and wind chills making it feel even colder.

The weather intensifies on Friday as widespread snow showers are likely, particularly during the morning hours. Winds will pick up, with gusts reaching up to 20 mph, creating reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions. Friday’s high is forecasted to reach just 33°F, with snow accumulations under an inch.

By Saturday, the cold snap deepens as a chance of scattered snow showers lingers. Highs will struggle to rise above 23°F, and Saturday night lows could plummet to a biting 12°F. Residents should take extra precautions to dress warmly, protect pets, and monitor icy walkways or road conditions.

Sunday offers slight relief with mostly cloudy skies and highs near 18°F. However, wind chills will keep conditions feeling brisk and wintry.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time, especially on major routes like I-90 and Route 31, where freezing precipitation may create slick spots. Local agencies recommend keeping emergency kits in vehicles and checking forecasts regularly for updates.
