Buffalo, NY – The US National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Wind Advisory for all of Western and North Central New York beginning 1 p.m. Wednesday through 1 a.m. Thursday, as a strong low-pressure system moves across the eastern Great Lakes.

Forecasters say southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph, will develop Wednesday afternoon before shifting northwest in the evening. The strongest winds are expected along the Lake Erie and Lake Ontario shorelines, spreading eastward across the region into the night.

Periods of rain showers will accompany the system as temperatures hover between 52°F and 59°F. Winds will gradually ease overnight, but scattered showers and cooler air are expected to persist into Thursday morning.

The weather service warns that tree limbs and power lines could be damaged in gusty areas, potentially leading to isolated outages. Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, should use extra caution on open roads and bridges during peak wind times.
