Buffalo, NY – A mix of winter and spring weather will impact Buffalo this week, with rising temperatures bringing rain and possible flooding. Residents should prepare for shifting conditions, as snow, rain, and warmer air will affect commutes and outdoor plans.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Monday will be mostly sunny with a high near 32°F, but a major warm-up begins Tuesday. Showers will develop late Monday night, with Tuesday’s high reaching 44°F. A chance of morning snow showers will transition to rain by the afternoon. South winds will increase to 9 mph, making for damp but milder conditions.
The biggest concern this week is potential flooding from melting snow and rainfall. NWS warns that ice jam flooding could impact Buffalo-area creeks, particularly Cattaraugus Creek, from Tuesday through Thursday. Rapid warming on Wednesday will push temperatures to 57°F with heavy rain expected, creating a high risk for localized flooding.
By Wednesday night, temperatures will drop to 32°F, causing rain to mix with snow again. Thursday will be mostly cloudy with a high of 36°F, and Friday will bring another round of snow showers. The weekend will remain chilly, with highs in the mid-30s.
Residents should monitor local forecasts and be prepared for changing conditions, especially if traveling or commuting. Flood-prone areas should take precautions as water levels rise midweek.
