Braidwood, IL – Braidwood Emergency Services and Disaster Agency (ESDA) reported on Monday night that power has been mostly restored following a transformer fire, with ongoing efforts to fully rectify the situation expected to extend into Tuesday morning.
A few residences close to the incident site are still without electricity as crews plan to work through the night and into the morning to replace the damaged equipment. The public is asked to avoid the vicinity of School Street to allow for the smooth progression of these essential repairs.
The ESDA clarified that the fire led to the closure of the 500 block of North School Street, from Cermak Road to 3rd Street, impacting local traffic. ComEd officials are actively managing the scene, confirming the power outage’s link to the fire.
As of 9pm Monday some 612 residences and businesses are without power, and a Comcast line has sustained damage in the fire. Community members are advised to steer clear of repair trucks and the affected area to help expedite the restoration process into Tuesday.
