Braidwood, IL – A Braidwood man was taken into custody Friday after allegedly discharging a firearm at an acquaintance during a July 4 incident involving a bulletproof vest.

According to the Braidwood Police Department, officers responded around 10:30 a.m. Friday to reports that a convicted felon had allegedly fired a gun at another person in the 1000 block of North Division Street on Thursday evening. The individual targeted was reportedly wearing a ballistic vest at the time.

Investigators interviewed multiple witnesses before securing a residential search warrant. By 4:40 p.m., officers from the Braidwood Police Department, with support from the Grundy County REACT Team and Wilmington Police Department, executed the warrant at a home on the same block. Authorities temporarily closed the street for about an hour during the operation.

Police said they recovered two firearms and a bulletproof vest from the residence. One of the guns had a defaced serial number, and the inner panel of the vest appeared to have been impacted by a projectile.

Ronald Tvrz, 51, of Braidwood, was taken into custody and interviewed. Following the investigation, the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office approved two preliminary felony charges:

  • Two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (Class 3 Felony)
  • One count of Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number (Class 3 Felony)

Tvrz was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Authorities confirmed there is no active threat to the public. The case remains under investigation.

The Braidwood Police Department thanked assisting agencies and emphasized that all individuals arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
