Bourbonnais, IL – Students in Bourbonnais Elementary School District 53 are experiencing delays in their daily commute due to an ongoing bus driver shortage. The district announced Tuesday that some students may face delays of up to 20 minutes for pickup and drop-off.

The district continues its efforts to hire and train new bus drivers, although the process has proven slow. In an attempt to mitigate delays, the district has rerouted buses. However, the shortage remains a challenge as they work to ensure students arrive at school and home on time.

According to district officials, the shortage is impacting families across the area, as they grapple with adjusted transportation schedules. The district has been actively recruiting drivers, offering $26 per hour, paid training, and additional bonuses to attract candidates.

Families have been encouraged to remain patient as the district navigates these issues. The school is hoping to return to normal operations soon but acknowledges that solutions may require additional time.

For now, parents and students are advised to plan for potential delays and stay updated on any further changes through district communications.
