Boston, MA – The National Weather Service in Boston reports that an arctic front will sweep through Massachusetts this afternoon, bringing gusty northwest winds and a few light snow showers.

According to the NWS, northwest Massachusetts faces the highest chance for a brief, localized snow squall, while the remainder of the state has a low chance (under 20%) of seeing one. These squalls can cause sudden drops in visibility and slick spots on untreated roads.

Behind the front, winds will increase sharply with gusts between 30 and 40 mph possible from mid-afternoon through early evening. Temperatures will fall through the 30s by late day, with wind chills making it feel even colder.

Residents across the state, including Worcester, Pittsfield, Springfield, and Boston, are advised to use caution while driving and to secure outdoor items ahead of strong wind gusts.

Conditions will gradually improve overnight, though much colder air will settle in heading into Friday morning.
