Boston, MA – A coastal storm arriving today is expected to bring rain to eastern Massachusetts and heavy snow across central and western parts of the state, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Boston. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for most areas west of I-95, with the heaviest snowfall forecast for the higher terrain.

Snow is expected to begin in the elevated interior between 7–10 AM Tuesday, while rain moves into the coastal plain after 10 AM. According to NWS forecasters, areas including the Worcester Hills, Franklin County, Hampshire County, and the Berkshires could see 6–12 inches, with the highest totals near the Vermont border. A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for surrounding regions.

Precipitation will taper from west to east between 10 PM and 2 AM, though forecasters note that colder air wrapping in behind the storm may briefly change rain to snow even in lower elevations, including Boston, Providence, and Hartford. Minor coastal accumulation is possible but not guaranteed.

Travel is expected to worsen through the afternoon and evening, especially along I-90, Route 2, and secondary roads in higher elevations. The NWS urges drivers to use caution and prepare for slick and hazardous conditions.

Snowfall for the Boston metro remains light, generally under 2 inches, while Worcester may see 2–4 inches, increasing sharply westward toward central Massachusetts and the hill towns.
