Wayne County, IN – Northeastern Wayne Schools faced a significant scare Monday morning following an unverified threat involving a potential bombing. Around 8:27 a.m., the Wayne County Emergency Communications Center received a report from Richmond Police about a male caller claiming to be en route to Northeastern Wayne Schools with a bomb and the intent to “kill everyone.”

Upon receiving the alarming information, the Communications Center immediately dispatched law enforcement to the schools. Wayne County Sheriff’s School Resource Officers (SROs) quickly collaborated with school officials to implement safety protocols. Sheriff’s patrol units, detectives, and officers from the Indiana State Police, Fountain City Police, and Richmond Police Departments also responded.

A command post was established by the Sheriff’s Office, and a thorough search of the school buildings, including the High School, Elementary School, and Pre-School, was conducted. The caller’s identity was also investigated, but the name provided did not match any students or staff members at Northeastern Wayne Schools or nearby institutions.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., with no credible threat identified, the schools resumed normal operations. Wayne County deputies remained on-site to ensure continued safety.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with multiple law enforcement agencies, is continuing to investigate the incident.
