Boise, Idaho – Drivers across southwest and central Idaho could face hazardous travel Friday night into Saturday as a fast-moving cold front brings mountain snow, valley rain, and dense morning fog to the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, the incoming system will impact Baker County, the West Central Mountains, and the Weiser River Basin starting late Thursday night. Visibility is expected to drop significantly near Burns and across the Treasure Valley by early Friday, with slick roads likely on Highways 95, 93, and I-84.

The combination of light snow, freezing temperatures, and patchy to dense fog could lead to black ice in higher elevations and treacherous morning commutes, especially in rural areas and canyon corridors. Snow levels will stay elevated but could dip during overnight hours, briefly affecting lower passes.

Travelers are urged to slow down, use headlights in fog, and allow extra time when driving—particularly on routes connecting Boise, Ontario, and Mountain Home. Commuters heading toward central mountains or crossing state lines into Oregon should prepare for changing conditions.

This system is expected to weaken by Saturday afternoon, but additional advisories may be issued if conditions persist.
