Lake Village, Ark. — A body discovered in an Arkansas cemetery has prompted a homicide investigation, police announced Wednesday.
At approximately 7:15 a.m., Chicot County deputies received a report of an unidentified man lying in the street inside the Lake Village Cemetery. Officers from the Lake Village Police Department (LVPD) responded and found James Haney, 63, deceased at the scene.
The Chicot County coroner confirmed Haney’s death on-site. His body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
The LVPD requested assistance from the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division to lead the case. Authorities are working to gather evidence and establish what circumstances led to Haney’s death in the cemetery.
Investigators have not released further details about the case. However, they encourage anyone with information to contact law enforcement immediately.
State police say a criminal case file will be prepared for the Chicot County prosecutor’s office following the completion of their investigation.
