Lake Crystal, MN – Two people were injured in a head-on crash Thursday morning on County Road 9 near Lake Crystal, according to the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the collision happened around 7:45 a.m. on September 25 east of Lake Crystal near 515th Avenue. The crash involved a red Honda Pilot and a gray Chevrolet Suburban, both carrying only their drivers.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the Honda Pilot was driven by 59-year-old German Anibal Ortega of Lake Crystal, while the Suburban was driven by 44-year-old Deisy De Leon Esqueda of rural Lake Crystal.
Authorities said Ortega was taken by ground ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. Esqueda was transported by air ambulance, also with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators determined the Honda Pilot was traveling west while the Suburban was traveling east. Witnesses reported seeing the Honda Pilot cross the centerline just before the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol. The Lake Crystal Fire Department, Lake Crystal Ambulance, and Mayo Clinic Air Ambulance also assisted at the scene.
