Davenport, IA – A winter storm will bring heavy snow and dangerous cold to Iowa and Illinois starting Friday, impacting travel and outdoor plans for the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow will begin Friday afternoon, becoming heavy at times through the evening. Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with winds up to 25 mph reducing visibility and creating slick road conditions. Those traveling should prepare for delays and hazardous driving.
Saturday will see additional light snow with highs reaching 34°F. However, an Arctic blast will drop overnight temperatures to 9°F, with wind chills making it feel even colder.
Sunday will be frigid, with a high of only 14°F and morning wind chills near -20°F. Those heading outdoors should dress in layers and limit exposure to prevent frostbite.
Another storm system is expected Monday into Tuesday, bringing more snow and continued cold. Forecast models suggest additional accumulations, making early-week travel hazardous.
