Binghamton, N.Y. – Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms may sweep across parts of New York’s Southern Tier Saturday afternoon and evening, bringing a brief burst of hazardous weather before a cooler, calmer Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, Saturday will be warm with highs in the 70s, but showers and storms could develop later in the day, particularly between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Some of these storms may bring gusty winds or small hail, especially in Broome, Tioga, and Chenango counties.

Travelers on I-81 and Route 17 should be alert for sudden downpours and reduced visibility. Outdoor plans may need to be adjusted as storm cells could move quickly through the region. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive alerts.

By Sunday, skies will clear and temperatures will drop significantly, with highs only reaching the 50s and morning lows dipping into the upper 30s across higher elevations.

Storm chances end by late Saturday night, but additional alerts may be issued if storm intensity increases. Stay tuned to local NWS updates throughout the weekend.
