Bibb County, GA – A wrong-way driver in downtown Macon was taken into custody early today after allegedly traveling without headlights, running a red light, and nearly causing a crash, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a sheriff’s incident report, H.E.A.T. Unit Deputy Dalton Palmer witnessed a Nissan Pathfinder driving the wrong way on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard before the driver allegedly ran a red light. The deputy reported that the vehicle appeared to be operated by an intoxicated motorist.

The report stated the driver, a woman whose name has not yet been released, was not wearing a seatbelt and allegedly argued aggressively with the deputy. She reportedly used profanity and then resisted arrest before being placed in handcuffs and secured in the back of a patrol cruiser.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the woman was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center on driving under the influence charges and several additional offenses related to the traffic violations and alleged resistance.

No injuries were reported, and the sheriff’s office did not note any property damage from the near collision.

Residents driving through downtown Macon today may notice increased patrol activity as deputies continue traffic enforcement efforts.
