Bemidji, Minn. – Thick fog will make travel difficult across parts of northern Minnesota Monday morning, with drivers urged to use caution on rural highways and city streets.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 11 a.m. for Wadena, Hubbard, Beltrami, Clearwater, Becker, Otter Tail, and Lake of the Woods counties. Visibility could drop to a quarter mile or less, creating hazardous conditions for commuters and school buses.

Cities including Bemidji, Wadena, Park Rapids, and Baudette are expected to experience the most significant impacts. Drivers on U.S. 71, U.S. 2, and Highway 10 should be prepared for sudden reductions in visibility, especially near lakes and low-lying areas.

Officials recommend slowing down, keeping headlights on, and allowing extra distance between vehicles. Motorists with early-morning travel plans are advised to build in additional time.

Conditions should improve late in the morning as the fog lifts, but isolated patches may linger near water into midday. Additional advisories could be issued if visibility fails to improve.
