Battle Creek, MI – Single-Vehicle Crash Causes Power Outages, Road Closure on N. Helmer Road

Battle Creek, MI – A Battle Creek man fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a power pole Tuesday morning, causing widespread power outages and a temporary road closure on N. Helmer Road.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 8:13 a.m. near N. Helmer Road and N. New Moon Terrace. Shortly after the initial crash, a semi-truck traveling through the area struck low-hanging power lines, causing further damage.

Consumers Energy and Xfinity crews responded to restore service. The road is expected to remain closed for several hours. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.

The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Authorities were assisted by the Springfield and Battle Creek Fire Departments.
