Baltimore, MD – Maryland residents should prepare for a weather shift as a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the Allegheny Mountains through Wednesday evening. Forecasters predict heavy snowfall in higher elevations, which could cause hazardous travel conditions and localized disruptions.

According to the National Weather Service, rain will transition to snow late tonight, with accumulation intensifying by Wednesday morning. In affected areas, snow could fall heavily at times, leading to low visibility and slippery roads. Residents traveling along Interstate 68 or U.S. Route 40 are urged to proceed cautiously.

For the Baltimore area, thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening, accompanied by gusty winds and heavy rain. Today’s high will reach 58 degrees before temperatures drop into the 40s tonight. By Wednesday, breezy and mostly sunny conditions are expected with a high of 51 degrees, providing a calmer start to the new year.

The five-day forecast shows a gradual cool-down after Wednesday. Thursday will bring sunshine and highs near 42 degrees, followed by clear but colder conditions Thursday night with a low of 30. Friday is expected to remain sunny with a high of 41.

Residents in western Maryland should monitor updates closely and prepare for potential travel delays. Always check for road conditions before driving in snow-covered areas and stock emergency supplies in your vehicle.
