Baltimore, Maryland – Wet roads are spreading north toward the I-95 corridor, with light rain reaching the Baltimore metro by 3 p.m. Thursday and creating slick conditions for the afternoon commute.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, showers developing over southwest Virginia early Thursday will expand northeast into central Maryland by mid-morning before pushing into Baltimore and Washington during the mid to late afternoon hours. Temperatures will range from the mid-30s in higher elevations near I-68 to near 50 degrees around the Inner Harbor, keeping precipitation mainly rain in urban corridors.

Drivers along I-95, I-83 and the Baltimore Beltway should allow extra travel time as steady light rain reduces visibility and dampens pavement. In western Maryland, cooler air may allow brief snow showers in the mountains, though significant accumulation is not expected during the daytime hours.

Rain tapers Thursday night, but lingering moisture and clearing skies could lead to patchy fog by 7 a.m. Friday, especially in low-lying areas near I-70 and along the Patapsco River. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 20s and 30s, creating the potential for isolated slick spots where water remains on untreated surfaces.

Sunshine returns Friday afternoon with highs climbing into the upper 40s and lower 50s. A stronger warmup arrives Saturday as temperatures surge into the 60s across central Maryland.

Motorists should monitor updated statements through Thursday evening as rainfall timing may shift and additional advisories could be issued if fog becomes dense overnight.
