California, USA – Two earthquakes shook California on Tuesday morning, occurring back-to-back within an hour of each other and just 200 miles apart. The first quake, with a magnitude of 3.5, hit at 5:11 AM PDT, 14 km west-northwest of Round Valley, CA. This tremor had a depth of 12.8 km, waking some residents in the area.

Less than an hour later, at 6:04 AM PDT, a second quake measuring 2.7 in magnitude was recorded 23 km north of Searles Valley, CA. This quake, with a shallow depth of just 1.6 km, also rattled the Mojave Desert region.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the two quakes’ timing and proximity underscore the active seismic nature of the area. With both tremors happening so close together, residents across these regions are encouraged to share their experiences. Did you feel it? Your reports can help scientists better understand the seismic patterns in this geologically active state.

California is no stranger to earthquakes, but these nearly simultaneous events serve as a reminder of the state’s unpredictable geology. Seismologists are closely monitoring the situation for any aftershocks or additional seismic activity.
