Imperial County, CA – Two minor earthquakes struck Imperial County Saturday morning, unsettling residents near the Salton Sea. The quakes occurred less than 30 minutes apart.

The first quake, registering a magnitude of 3.0, struck nine kilometers northwest of Calipatria at 7:45 a.m. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), it occurred at a shallow depth of 3.7 kilometers. The second, a magnitude 2.7 tremor, hit 11 kilometers south-southwest of Salton City at 7:46 a.m., with a depth of 4.4 kilometers.

Residents across the region reported mild shaking but no significant damage or injuries. The area, known for its seismic activity, sits near the southern edge of the San Andreas Fault. Seismologists note these quakes are consistent with typical tectonic shifts in the area.

While minor, the back-to-back quakes serve as a reminder for residents to remain earthquake-prepared. Local officials urge families to check emergency supplies and review safety plans.
