Autistic Child Rescued from Pool by Fort Wayne Officer After Going Missing

Fort Wayne, IN – A three-year-old autistic child was rescued from a near-drowning incident after going missing from their home on September 22, 2024. The child disappeared around 2:20 p.m. near the 6700 block of Sullivans Court, prompting a swift response from the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD).

Officers immediately searched the child’s residence and the surrounding area. According to the FWPD, Officer Myers located the missing child in a backyard pool. The child appeared frightened and was at risk of drowning. Officer Myers quickly pulled the child from the water, preventing a tragedy.

The rescue, captured on Officer Myers’ body cam, shows the moment the officer saved the child from the water. The FWPD posted the footage on social media to highlight the successful rescue effort.

Family members and neighbors had been deeply concerned after the child went missing, but thanks to the rapid response by local law enforcement, the situation ended safely. Authorities commended Officer Myers for his heroic actions and reminded the public to always be vigilant in child safety, especially near bodies of water.

The child was evaluated for injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
