Austin, Texas – Periods of freezing rain are expected to create icy conditions across Central Texas this weekend, with timing and duration varying by location and increasing the risk for hazardous travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin–San Antonio, accumulating ice could begin as early as 6 a.m. Saturday in northern counties, including Llano, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Rocksprings, and Georgetown. Areas farther east, including eastern Hill Country, may see icing begin closer to noon Saturday.

In the Austin metro area, including Austin, Kyle, and New Braunfels, the leading edge of icing is expected to arrive around 6 p.m. Saturday, while areas farther south — including San Antonio, Pleasanton, and La Grange — may not see icing until around midnight Saturday night.

Forecasters stress that icing may not be continuous, but longer exposure windows, especially in northern counties, could lead to greater ice accumulation. Even small amounts of ice can create slick roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses.

No additional ice accumulation is expected after noon Sunday, but lingering icy spots could persist into the afternoon hours. Residents are urged to monitor conditions closely, limit travel during icing periods, and plan ahead for changing road conditions through the weekend.
