Texas – A winter storm warning is in effect across Central Texas through Tuesday evening, bringing icy conditions, freezing rain, and snow. Residents along the I-35 corridor, including Austin and San Antonio, should prepare for hazardous travel and freezing temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow and sleet accumulation could range from 0.5 to 1.5 inches, with freezing rain producing up to 0.1 inches of ice. Areas southeast of San Antonio may see slightly higher totals. The most severe conditions are expected overnight Monday into Tuesday morning, creating dangerous driving conditions during peak travel hours.
The NWS has advised delaying non-essential travel, especially on bridges and overpasses, where refreezing could occur. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution, as icy roads may lead to delays and accidents.
A cold weather advisory also remains in effect through Wednesday morning, with wind chills expected to dip below freezing overnight. Residents should protect pets, plants, and pipes from the cold. Those using space heaters should ensure they are kept at least three feet away from flammable objects.
The storm is expected to clear by late Tuesday, with sunny skies returning Wednesday. Temperatures will gradually warm, reaching highs of 46°F on Wednesday and 55°F by Thursday.
