Aurora, IL – Aurora firefighters responded to two separate second-alarm house fires within three days last week, preventing injuries despite heavy damage to both homes.

According to the Aurora Fire Department, the first fire occurred on September 11 around 12:50 p.m. in the 2400 block of Whitehall Court. Neighbors reported heavy smoke and flames coming from a single-family home. Police officers arrived first and safely removed a dog before firefighters entered the structure. Crews contained the blaze within 24 minutes, and while the home remained habitable, residents were advised to seek temporary lodging during cleanup. About 25 firefighters responded to the scene.

A second fire broke out on September 13 at approximately 9:13 a.m. in the 100 block of Westhampton Court. Firefighters found a two-story home with flames in the attic and heavy smoke coming from the roof. Residents had already evacuated. Crews brought the fire under control in 15 minutes, but due to significant fire and water damage, the home was declared uninhabitable.

Aurora Fire Chief David McCabe said the incidents show how quickly conditions can escalate, particularly in attics and rear structures. “Thanks to quick reporting and a coordinated response, both homes were searched, secured, and extinguished without injuries,” McCabe stated.

Both incidents remain under investigation by Aurora Fire Department fire investigators.
