Atlanta, GA – Drivers across metro Atlanta could face wet roads and sudden downpours before the Monday morning commute as thunderstorms move into north Georgia during the early morning hours.
Saturday brings one of the warmest days of the week with clear skies and temperatures climbing to around 75°F across Fulton, DeKalb, and Cobb counties. Calm winds and sunshine should keep travel and outdoor plans across the metro area smooth through the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms may develop after 11 a.m. Sunday, becoming more widespread overnight. Thunderstorms are expected to increase after 5 a.m. Monday, bringing periods of steady rain and gusty winds as temperatures fall from the weekend warmth.
Rain showers could slow traffic along major corridors including I-75, I-85, and the Downtown Connector, particularly during heavier bursts early Monday. Winds may gust up to 30 mph, which could reduce visibility on elevated roadways and interchanges across the city.
Rain continues into Monday afternoon before colder air filters into north Georgia Monday night, dropping temperatures to around 26°F under clearing skies.
Dry and sunny conditions return Tuesday with highs near 45°F, while a gradual warming trend develops through midweek across the Atlanta metro area. Additional weather statements may be issued if stronger thunderstorms develop late Sunday night.
