Indianapolis, IN – Firefighters in Indianapolis are investigating two suspected arson fires that destroyed homes early Sunday. Both fires, which occurred hours apart on Hamilton Avenue and College Avenue, have been ruled as arson by authorities. Investigators are seeking the public’s help in identifying suspects.
According to Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), the first fire ignited around 12:54 a.m. on Hamilton Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find heavy flames engulfing three vacant homes. Within moments, two structures collapsed. Firefighters took two hours to control the blaze.
Later, around 3:48 a.m., another fire broke out at 2020 N. College Avenue. Flames from two vacant homes threatened a neighboring occupied structure, but firefighters prioritized limiting damage to surrounding properties. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was treated at Methodist Hospital.
Investigators report that both fires were set intentionally, but they have not confirmed if the incidents are connected. A person of interest has been identified for the Hamilton Avenue fire, though officials continue to seek additional information on both cases.
