Arlington Heights, IL – Residents in Arlington Heights should plan for an earlier trash collection schedule this week as extreme heat prompts changes to protect sanitation workers.
According to the Village of Arlington Heights, Groot Industries will begin garbage collection one hour earlier than normal, with trucks starting routes at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Village officials are asking residents to have all garbage and recycling carts at the curb before 6 a.m. on those collection days to ensure they are picked up. Carts placed out later than the scheduled start time could be missed as crews move through neighborhoods earlier than usual.
The temporary schedule adjustment comes as dangerous heat is expected across northern Illinois this week. By shifting collection to the cooler morning hours, the village aims to reduce heat exposure for sanitation workers while maintaining regular service.
Residents do not need to change their scheduled collection day—only the time their carts are placed at the curb.
The Village of Arlington Heights thanked residents for planning ahead and helping keep collection crews safe during the period of extreme heat.
