Shreveport, LA – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Shreveport confirmed 66 tornadoes touched down across the ArkLaTex region in 2024. Most storms were weak, with no reported EF4 or EF5 tornadoes.
According to the NWS, 49 tornadoes were rated EF1, while 10 were classified as EF0. Six tornadoes reached EF2 strength, but none were rated EF3 or higher. One storm remains unclassified.
The NWS stated that these numbers are preliminary and subject to change. Residents can check the NOAA Storm Events Database for official records.
Shreveport, Longview, and Texarkana saw the highest tornado activity. Many storms caused structural damage, downed power lines, and road closures.
The Enhanced Fujita (EF) Scale classifies tornadoes based on wind speeds. EF0 and EF1 storms are weak, while EF2 and EF3 tornadoes are strong. EF4 and EF5 storms are violent, with winds over 166 mph.
