Little Rock, AR – A winter weather advisory will take effect at 6 p.m. Sunday, bringing snow and ice to parts of Arkansas. Slick roads and hazardous conditions are expected to develop across the region, prompting residents to exercise caution.
According to the National Weather Service, areas in north-central and eastern Arkansas, including Harrison, Mountain Home, and Pocahontas, could see up to one inch of snow and a light glaze of ice by early Monday morning. The advisory remains in place until 6 a.m. Monday.
Key roads and highways, including U.S. Route 62 and State Highway 7, may become particularly slippery, especially on bridges and overpasses. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds and allow extra travel time if venturing out overnight.
The forecast predicts mixed precipitation beginning in the evening hours, with temperatures dropping below freezing. Winds from the northwest will contribute to icy patches on untreated surfaces, adding to the risks for drivers and pedestrians alike.
Looking ahead, Monday will bring clearer skies and a high near 37°F, though wind chills will make it feel much colder. Conditions will improve throughout the week, with sunshine returning Tuesday and daytime highs gradually rising to the upper 30s.
Residents should monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel tonight. For road condition updates, call 511 or check local traffic resources.
