Little Rock, AR – Elevated wildfire risks and new burn bans are gripping Arkansas this week, as state officials warn residents to take immediate precautions. Extreme fire danger has spread statewide, with warm, dry weather expected to persist through the weekend.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock, a combination of above-average temperatures, low humidity, and dry vegetation has created prime conditions for wildfires. As of Wednesday, additional burn bans have been issued, covering most of central and western Arkansas counties, including areas along major highways like I-30 and I-40.

The NWS warns that these hazardous conditions are expected to continue into Thursday and beyond, with temperatures near 90°F forecast for much of the state. Winds are expected to remain calm, but even a small spark could cause devastating fires under the current conditions.

Residents and travelers should avoid any outdoor burning and exercise caution when using machinery that could create sparks. Local officials stress that anyone caught violating burn bans could face significant fines. Those traveling through affected areas like Pulaski, Jefferson, and Faulkner counties should be especially vigilant.

Looking ahead, the extended forecast shows little relief from the fire danger. Thursday’s high is expected to reach 85°F, with similarly hot and dry weather through Friday. While a slight cooldown is anticipated by Saturday, the NWS projects no significant rainfall over the next five days.
