Little Rock, AR – A significant rainfall event is set to impact Arkansas starting Tuesday, bringing a flash flood risk along major roadways, including I-40. Rainfall totals could reach up to 1.5 inches in some areas, with saturated grounds increasing flood potential.
According to the National Weather Service, rainfall is expected to intensify Tuesday and continue through Christmas Eve. By Saturday, some areas in central Arkansas could accumulate more than four inches of rain. Drivers along I-40 and other key routes should remain cautious, as localized flooding may occur in low-lying areas.
The forecast for Tuesday calls for steady rain throughout the day, with temperatures reaching a high of 55°F and southeast winds at 5 mph. Rain will persist into Tuesday night, followed by scattered showers on Christmas Day. Wednesday will bring a 20% chance of additional rain, but conditions will remain mostly cloudy.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely to resume Thursday, accompanied by gusts of up to 15 mph. Residents are advised to prepare for potentially hazardous travel conditions and monitor local alerts for updates.
The NWS warns that repeated rainfall over the week could lead to flash flooding in parts of Arkansas. Precautions should be taken, particularly in areas prone to standing water. Avoid driving through flooded streets, as even a few inches of water can impair vehicles.
