Little Rock, AR – A large portion of Arkansas faces a heightened threat of severe weather Sunday, with the potential for destructive winds exceeding 80 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes through late evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, an Enhanced Risk area covers much of central, eastern, and southern Arkansas, including cities such as Little Rock, Pine Bluff, West Memphis, and El Dorado. The probability of severe weather ranges from 30% to 44% across the state, with a hatched area indicating at least a 10% chance of significant severe conditions.
All modes of severe weather are possible, including EF2 or stronger tornadoes, hail up to golf ball size, and wind gusts potentially exceeding hurricane strength. The worst conditions are expected between Sunday afternoon and late evening.
Residents in the affected zones should prepare now. Make sure emergency kits are stocked, phones are fully charged, and multiple ways to receive warnings are in place. Avoid unnecessary travel during storm watches or warnings.
This setup is not uncommon for spring in Arkansas, but the widespread risk makes Sunday particularly notable. Officials urge Arkansans to monitor updates as conditions evolve through the weekend.
