Fort Smith, Ark. – Drivers from Fayetteville to Fort Smith should brace for dangerous road conditions early Friday as dense fog cuts visibility to less than a quarter mile across northwest Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. CDT. Impacted areas include Benton, Washington, Madison, and Sebastian counties in Arkansas, as well as Adair, Cherokee, and Le Flore counties in Oklahoma. Motorists can expect rapidly changing visibility on highways including I-49, U.S. Route 412, and State Highway 59.

Cities like Bentonville, Sallisaw, and Tahlequah are waking up to thick fog that could linger through the morning commute. Officials urge drivers to slow down, switch to low beam headlights, and increase following distances to avoid collisions.

School buses and early-morning travelers are especially advised to take caution, as some areas may see near-zero visibility in low-lying spots.

The advisory is expected to expire by 8 a.m., but updates may follow if fog persists or redevelops. Stay tuned to local alerts for the latest driving conditions.
