Tulsa, Oklahoma – Eastern Oklahoma is facing dangerous heat through the end of the week, with “feels like” temperatures expected to reach up to 107°F by Friday, posing serious risks of heat-related illness.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, heat index values across most of eastern Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas will climb between 95°F and 106°F Tuesday through Friday afternoon. Actual high temperatures will range from 90°F to 98°F, but humidity will intensify conditions significantly.

Tulsa, Bartlesville, Muskogee, and McAlester are all projected to hit heat indices of 102°F or higher, with Fort Smith, Arkansas approaching 106°F. Tuesday afternoon begins the upward trend, but the most intense heat is expected Thursday and Friday.

The NWS urges residents to monitor for signs of heat exhaustion or stroke, wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, and stay hydrated. Anyone working or spending time outdoors should take frequent shaded or air-conditioned breaks.

This extended stretch of oppressive heat is typical for mid-July but still dangerous, particularly for vulnerable populations and those without adequate cooling.

More heat advisories may be issued if conditions worsen. Residents should stay tuned for local updates and continue to follow heat safety precautions.
