Eudora, AR – A Louisiana fugitive wanted for multiple violent felonies was arrested last week in Eudora after a multi-state alert triggered a manhunt across the region.
According to Arkansas State Police, 40-year-old Richard Dewayne Pope of Oak Grove, Louisiana, was apprehended without incident Thursday evening around 7:30 p.m. on Highway 65 South. Authorities say Pope had been flagged by the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s office as dangerous due to his violent criminal history and was traveling through Chicot County on a motorcycle.
Troopers located Pope at a local convenience store and transported him to the Drew County Detention Center. He is currently awaiting extradition to Louisiana.
Pope faces multiple felony charges, including six counts each of second-degree attempted murder and impeding a witness, as well as insurance fraud, aggravated arson, and obstruction of justice due to evidence destruction. Authorities also noted he has a prior aggravated assault arrest involving a firearm.
The case remains under investigation by both Arkansas and Louisiana law enforcement agencies.
