Little Rock, Ark. – Heavy rainfall is expected to soak southern Arkansas starting early Tuesday, with flood watches already in effect and as much as 4 inches of rain forecast for some areas through Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, a Flood Watch begins at 7 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, and remains in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 7. The greatest risk lies in the southern two-thirds of the state, particularly El Dorado, Monticello, and Prescott, where 3 to 4 inches of rain could trigger flash flooding.

Far southern Arkansas, including Texarkana and De Queen, is under a Moderate Risk (Level 3 of 4) for flash flooding. Rainfall totals here are expected to exceed 2 inches, and the region’s already saturated ground—due to above-average precipitation in April—adds to the flood threat. Cities like Pine Bluff and Hot Springs may also see between 1.5 and 3 inches of rainfall.

Travelers should avoid low-lying roads and monitor local alerts. Residents are urged to charge devices, secure valuables, and prepare for possible power outages.

The National Weather Service warns that additional advisories may follow as the system intensifies. Watches remain in place through early Wednesday morning.
