Hastings, Nebraska – A brief shot at rain returns to parts of south-central Nebraska and north-central Kansas Tuesday night, but most of the region will stay mild and dry through the early week.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, the vast majority of the area will remain dry until at least late Tuesday evening, with the best odds for measurable rain—at least 0.25 inches—centered along the Nebraska-Kansas border. Any thunderstorms that develop are expected to be weak and non-severe.

Temperatures Monday and Tuesday will hover in the low to upper 70s, with breezy winds between 10–15 mph. Gusts could reach as high as 25 mph, blowing in from the south Monday and shifting east-southeast Tuesday.

Scattered late-night showers are possible Tuesday, especially across counties like Nuckolls, Thayer, and Webster in Nebraska, and extending into north-central Kansas. Rain amounts, if any, will be light and localized, offering limited relief for areas in need of moisture.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the mild weather before rain chances increase Tuesday night into Wednesday. No hazardous conditions are expected at this time, but gusty winds could briefly affect high-profile vehicles on open roads.

Another update is expected early Tuesday morning if rain chances expand.
